Mark Morales

Postdoctoral Research Associate (Castorani)
Office Address/Hours
Mark joins the Department of Environmental Science at UVA after completing a postdoctoral appointment at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), where he worked with Dr. Malin Pinsky developing process-based species distribution models for Dungeness crab. He earned his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCSC under the guidance of Drs. Mark Carr and Elliott Hazen (NOAA), using state-of-the-art ecosystem models to disentangle the biophysical drivers of recruitment variability in shortbelly rockfish. In his new role at UVA, Mark will apply his quantitative expertise to investigate the hydrodynamic and demographic mechanisms underlying oyster metapopulation dynamics. He is excited to collaborate with an interdisciplinary, multi-institutional team of scientists working with The Nature Conservancy to inform oyster reef restoration.
